In the last two years, we have installed the sprinkler system, replaced the heating system, and done significant upgrades elsewhere in the house. The work continues for us all as fall turns to winter snow.
The board has been looking at the chapter house needs. Part of that process has been evaluating what is going on around campus. Most of us have heard about the $7 million renovation at Beta Theta Pi. What you may not know is the number of other renovations on campus and the amounts raised by alumni. We would all welcome a single alumnus to step forward (like Beta) but I am more encouraged by the other changes on campus.
Sigma Chi has finished a complete renovation that cost over $2.2 million. Phi Kappa Psi is finishing a renovation after raising $1.1 million. TKE and Sigma Phi Epsilon have both raised close to a million dollars. KDR is finishing up a $500,000 renovation.
Our next door neighbor, AGR, has started on a renovation of over $500,000. Our peers have realized that making a significant investment in their properties for commercial-grade construction is in their best long-term interests. They can now offer their undergraduate members a safe and desirable housing option.
For Gamma Omega to continue attracting the brightest and best men on campus, we will need to upgrade the house. We must ensure a safe living facility that meets the needs of today’s students. While there may be some differences in today’s chapter from the one you remember, we all have in common our commitment to Gamma Omega and a love for our house.
These are uncertain times in our economy, but I am buoyed by the success of alumni groups around us. Certainly our dedication and love for Gamma Omega is not second to any of these groups. Thank you to all alumni for your support of Gamma Omega and ATO at Penn State.
Fraternally,
Aric Wagner ’90
